Access to Work
What is Access to Work?
The Access to Work scheme provides grants and assistance to disabled people over the age of 16, so that they might start/ stay in work or launch their own business; it applies for full- and part-time employment, temporary work and self-employment. Essentially, it promotes independence.
Grants can be applied for whether you are currently in work or seeking a new job. The actual amount of money and/or assistance granted does depend on your individual circumstances, but does not have to be paid back. The funds can be put towards:
- Specialist equipment enabling you to travel to and from work more easily, including vehicle adaptations.
- Any adaptations which are required in your place of work. For example, lifts & hoists like the Smart Transfer.
- Engaging a support worker or career coach to assist you at work.
- Providing disability awareness training for colleagues.
- The cost of moving any equipment, should you change your location or job.
The Access to Work grant could pay for the installation of a number of Autochair adaptations in your vehicle, each designed to make your daily commute a simple and stress-free task. Our range of innovative Smart Lifter car boot hoists will both lift and store scooters or powerchairs in the boot of your car with ease. We also offer a selection of solutions which make it easier for you to drive yourself to work, including steering aids and left foot accelerators.
